Divyadesams within saivite temple
The following divyadesams lie within a Saivite temple:
1. Nilaththingal Thundattan is a small sannidhi within the precincts of Ekambareshwarar temple in Kanchi
2. Kalvanoor is within the Kanchi Kamakshi temple
3. Chitrakoodam lies within the Chidambaram Nataraja temple (though it is a full fledged temple with separate dwajastambam and multiple sannidhis within)
I am curious whether this was the case when the Azhwars worshipped. The story of Chidambaram Govindaraja temple is well known. So it is unlikely it was within the precincts of Nataraja temple. It is widely beleived it was a separate temple before Kulothunga (I or II) destroyed it during 12th/13rd century. Later in 15/16th century it was built by the Vijayanagara empire.

Kadalmallai divyadesam
Is the current Sthalasayana perumal koil at Mahabalipuram the temple Thirumangai Azhwar refers to as Kadalmallai in Periya Thirumozhi? This is because all the architecture in the Sthalasayana perumal temple indicates Vijayanagara construction post 14th century. Can Kadalmallai be one of the shore temples swallowed by the ocean or the existing shore temple where Perumal is seen without Adisesha. The shore temple is an ancient one that would have existed during Azhwar's time. Also note that Thiruvidanthai the closest divyadesam to Mahabalipuram has a clear Pallava architecture.
History of Vadakalai Divyadesams
It is quite well known that the current Vadakalai temples (divyadesams and other ancient temples ) have been converted in the last two centuries. The history of conversions that took place in Kanchi Varadarja temple can be deciphered from the court records (which I will summarize in another post). I am trying to gather information on other prominent Vadakalai temples.
The divyadesams that bear Vadakalai thiruman (exclusively) are:
Thirukkudanthai, Ahobilam, Thiruevvul, Thiruvinnagar, Therazhundur, Thiruvahindrapuram, Thiruvelliangudi, Thirupullabhoothangudi, Thirukandiyur, Thiruadhanur.
I couldn't find any information on Thirukkudanthai which I love greatly as the prabandams for this temple is unrivaled except for Arangam Vengadam and Solai and to some extent Kannapuram and Naraiyur.
Ahobilam and Thiruevvul (Thiruvallur) could have been converted without much opposition because it was under direct control of Ahobila Mutt which itself was believed to be converted sometime in the 18th century. Thanjai Mamuni Koil was demolished by descendants of RajaRaja Chola. It became the present three temples recently so that can explain the change of sign.
Thoopul is like Kanchi temple where Srisailesa dayapatram is recited but most thirumans in the temple are Vadakalai. Note there exist multiple mutilated Thenkalai thirumans in both these temples.
It is plausible that smaller and poorer temples could have been easier targets and successfully converted. But Kudanthai is such a historic temple. How could have it been easily converted?
